Coming for the 2027 market season

Ring them up. Show one code. Paid.

Market Mode turns the phone in your pocket into your market-day register. No card reader to buy or charge, and every sale lands in your stock count and your books. Part of Artisan Pro.

We'll link this to your seller account.

The problem

Market day is your best sales day and your worst bookkeeping day

You can sell more in four hours at the table than in a week online. Then it takes the evening to work out what sold, what's left, and what any of it earned.

One more thing to charge

A card reader is something to buy, charge and pair before the gates open. Market Mode needs nothing but the phone you already carry.

Sales in three places

Cash in the box, Venmo on your phone, cards in another app. None of it touches your stock count, so Sunday's online shoppers can order the jam you sold on Saturday.

Customers you never see again

Someone tries your sourdough, pays cash and walks off. You have no way to tell them when you bake again.

How it works

Three ways to take the sale. One screen.

Use whichever suits the customer in front of you. All three end up in the same stock count and the same books.

A code on your table

Stand a QR code on your table. Buyers scan it, pick what they want from today's table, pay on their own phone and show you the confirmation.

A cart you ring up

Tap items as the customer picks them. Press Checkout and turn your phone around: one large code, the total and the items. They scan and pay.

Cash or Venmo, logged

Took cash? One tap records the sale and takes it off your stock count. SellFood charges nothing on it.

Try it now

Run a sale

You're the maker on the first phone and the customer on the second. Build a cart, press Checkout, then pay on the customer's phone.

Demo only. No payment is taken. The code on the checkout screen is a real QR code: scan it and it opens this page.

What's on the screen

Market Mode is in design now. This is what we're building for the 2027 season.

Named carts

Keep several carts open at once and name each one, like "blue hat" or "Sarah", so a slow payer never holds up the line.

A checkout screen made to be shown

The code sits at the top and never scrolls. The total is in large type under it. Your margin and your other carts stay off this screen.

Discounts on the spot

Take dollars or a percentage off one item or the whole cart. Or type the price you agreed, "call it $20", and the discount is worked out for you.

Market-day deals

Pick a deal when you start your day. It shows on your table page, goes in the "at market today" email to your followers, applies without a code, and ends when you pack up.

Margin as you sell

See what each product earns and what the cart earns after a discount, from the costs already on your listings. Hidden until you tap, with a warning if a discount takes you below cost.

One stock count

What sells at the table comes off your online listing. Bulk pricing you've already set applies at the booth too.

Books already done

QR and cash sales both land in Accounting and your Sales Limit Tracker. No notebook, and no re-entry on Sunday night.

Buyers you can reach again

Each QR receipt carries a link to follow your shop and reorder online, so a walk-up can become a regular.

What it costs

Included with Artisan Pro. No day fee.

You brought the customer to your table, so the fee is half the standard online rate. Cash stays yours.

Founding members pay the same 5% on QR sales. Stripe also charges its card processing fee on QR payments, usually 2.9% + 30¢ per payment in the U.S., the same as on online orders. See Artisan Pro →

On purpose

What Market Mode doesn't do

A home food business doesn't need a checkout counter. We left these out so the part you use at the table stays fast.

No card readerBuyers pay on their own phone with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card. There is nothing to tap a card against, and nothing for you to buy.
No app to installIt runs in the browser on the phone you already have. That also means a QR payment needs a signal at your booth.
No middleman on the moneyYou're the seller on every sale. QR payments go to your own Stripe account, the same as your online orders.
No deciding your state's rulesIn-person rules differ by state. Market Mode shows your state's notice and asks you to confirm you're allowed. Start with your state guide.

Frequently asked

Market Mode, answered

Do I need a card reader?

No. Buyers pay on their own phone with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card. There is nothing to tap a card against and nothing for you to buy, charge or pair.

Does my customer need an app or an account?

No app, and no sign-up before they pay. They scan the code with their phone camera, pay, and get a receipt by email.

How do I know they really paid?

Your screen turns green and shows a four-digit code. The same code is on the buyer's phone, next to a clock counting up from the moment they paid, so an old screenshot can't pass for a new sale.

What does Market Mode cost?

Market Mode is included with Artisan Pro. There is no day fee. SellFood charges 5% on sales paid by QR and nothing on cash, Venmo or anything else you log. Stripe also charges its card processing fee on QR payments, usually 2.9% + 30¢ per payment in the U.S.

Can I use it at any market?

Yes. Farmers markets, pop-ups, craft fairs, or a table on your own porch. Market Mode isn't tied to any one market.

What about cash and Venmo?

Ring the cart up the same way, then tap Paid another way. The sale is recorded, your stock count drops, and SellFood charges nothing on it.

Is selling this way allowed in my state?

Rules for in-person sales differ by state. Your SellFood state guide covers where you can sell, and Market Mode will show your state's notice and ask you to confirm you're allowed before you switch it on. That is not legal advice.
